Club Notes 24th September 2017

Championship Final

The seniors made the trip to Celtic Park on Saturday for their first championship final appearance in 10 years. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half which made conditions difficult for both teams, the Bridge got off to a great start and went 3 ahead after 3 minutes via Conor McGrogan, Michael Bateson and Ciaran Brooks. Faughanvale levelled the game by the 20th minute with 2 of their scores coming via frees but in the 20th minute Eamon Burke restored the Bridges lead. Faughanvale again levelled the game in the 29th minute but deep in first half injury time, Eamon Burke won a long ball in and quickly offloaded to the onrushing Kevin Sweeney who drilled the ball to the net to open up a precious 3 point lead going into the break. With the breeze at their backs for the second half, the Bridge pushed on and opened up a 8 point lead with points from Burke, Muholland, Bateson, Sweeney and CD. Faughanvales only scored of the second half came in the 57th minute when they caught the defence offguard and slotted to the back of the net. When the final whistle was blown, it bridged a 10 year gap since the last title for the club. Final score Newbridge 1-09 Faughanvale 1-04. Newbridge scorers were K Sweeney (1-01), M Bateson & E Burke (0-02 each), C McGrogan, C Brooks, D Mulholland & C Doherty (0-01 each).

The committee once again wish to thank the management team of Paddy, Pete and Paul and all the players for hard work ,effort and sacrifice they have put in from the beginning of the season . To complete the double is a great achievement and we now move onto Ulster to face the Cavan champions in 3 weeks time.
