The seniors will made the long journey to Breffini Park on Sunday to face Cavan champions Shercock in the preliminary round of the Ulster Championship. The Bridge got off to a nervous start but despite this found themselves 3 up after 10 minute although Shercock were very wasteful in front of goals. Shercock found composure over the next 10 minutes and opened up a 4 point lead, aided by 3 black cards softly handed out to Bridge players. After the initial shock the Bridge responded admirably with 2 points each from Danny Mulholland and Ryan McElhone steadying the ship before the break to leave us trailing by 1 at the break. The second half saw a completely different Bridge team and stamped their authority scoring 1-06 without reply, the goal was superbly finished by Mark McGrogan after a brillant team move. Shercock from the resulting kick out worked their way up the field and slotted the ball of the net. The Bridge never dropped their heads and pushed on with scores from CD and Eamon Burke and in the 53rd minute a collectors item left footed goal from Burke all but sealed the win. The victory was rounded off with points from Bateson, CD, Ciaran Devlin and Burke to leave the final score Newbridge 2-20 Shercock 2-07. Newbridge scorers were R McElhone (0-06), M McGrogan & E Burke (1-02 each), D Mulholland & C Doherty (0-03 each), K Sweeney, P McGrogan, M Bateson & C Devlin (0-01 each). Next up for the team is Belcoo from Fermanagh on 28th October.
