Club Notes 22nd October 2017

Ulster Championship 

The seniors face Belcoo of Fermanagh in the quarter final of Ulster Championship this Saturday in Celtic Park Derry, throw in 5.15pm. Everyone should leave sufficient time for travelling as this is a double header. As always, everyone should turn out in plenty of colour and get behind the lads from the off!!

The club wishes James Gilmore a speedy recovery after he sustained a serious knee injury in a recent training session.

U21 Championship

The u21s faced Claudy in the semi final of the championship on Wednesday evening in Owenbeg. In difficult conditions the team put a solid first half performance against the breeze to trail by a point at the break. With the breeze at their backs, the Bridge produced a more polished performance with a goal from Jude Diamond at a crucial stage of the game providing the platform for victory. Final score Newbridge 1-16 Claudy 0-13.

Newbridge scorers were J Diamond (1-00), M McGrogan (0-06), O McGlone (0-05), C Doherty (0-02), PJ O’Neill, A McGlone & C McGrogan (0-01 each).

The team faced Glenullin in Glenullin in Sundays final and despite playing against the breeze, got off to a great start racing into a 5 point lead after 8 minutes courtesy of points from Mark (2), Conor, Paudie and CD. In the 18th minute a rampaging solo run was finished with a goal by the same player and quickly followed up with 2 quick points from Aidy and Mark to push the Bridge 9 ahead. Soon after a quick fire double by Odhrán McGlone was sandwiched by 3 Glenullin points. Odhrán got his third of the half in the 27th minute and the final score of the half came from the boot of Mark to leave 9 between the teams. Glenullin started the second half much livelier registering an early point and then a goal to reduce the Bridges lead to 5. Points from CD and Mark settled the Bridge again prior to Glenullin converting a free. The teams traded points in the 15th and 17th minute and the final 2 scores of the game came via CD and Jude as the Bridge ran out worthy championship winners on a scoreline of Newbridge 1-16 Glenullin 1-08.

Newbridge scorers were C Doherty (1-03), M McGrogan (0-06), O McGlone (0-03), C McGrogan, P McGrogan, A McGlone, & J Diamond (0-01 each). After the game, captain Dessie McColgan accepted the Harry O’Kane Trophy on behalf of the team. The committee wish to congratulate and thank the management team of Ryan and the 2 Peters and all the players for all their hard work and efforts in securing the trophy.

St Mungos of Luganulk 

Due to the clash with the Ulster Championship, the committee have taken the decision to postpone the fundraiser this weekend.

Big Breakfast

The committee wish to thank the large crowd who attended Sundays Big Breakfast fundraiser and especially all the workers who made such a success. All funds raised go towards the clubs Ulster campaign.


This weeks lotto will be held on Sunday morning at 11am.
