Newbridge GAC Club Notes 14th May
The senior footballers faced Kilrea on Sunday in Kilrea. The bridge without veteran forward Danny Mulholland and his hair piece started well with a Peter McGrogan Free which was pulled back trough a kilrea free. followed by two scores in quick succession the bridge led 3-1 after thirteen minutes however a purple patch for kilrea saw them turn a 2 point deficit into a three point lead befor two more scores from Peter saw the bridge go in at half time a point down. Kilrea again started the second half well however Newbridge again pulled the game back to a one point affair through a score from Nathan Rocks after he threw his considerable weight around the middle of the field to shrug off two kilrea challenges and a sublimely taken effort by Kevin Sweeney who found himself at the end of a terrific newbridge move to slot the ball over the bar under little pressure fro the kilrea defence. Kilrea again puled out a two point lead which was then pegged back by Peter McGrogn who was a torture for kilrea on the day, however entering the ast 5 minutes the game really came alive with Newbridge being denied a clear penalty and KIlrea missing an easy free to make it a two point game. Entering the last couple of minutes the bridge increased their pressure on the kilrea team who had been given there fill of it until this point following a magnificent point blank stop by the bridge keeper Michael O’Neill, with yet another Peter McGrogan free bringing the game back to a point before the bridge hassled and hariied a kilrea player into foulng the ball close to the sideline which was then moved in by the referee to allow Peter to again slot over yet another free to draw a game which the bridge will feel they let slip away. The ball was then kicked out and as Peter landed from fielding a magnificient catch the referee blew for full time bringing to an end the contest.
