Newbridge GAC Club NOtes 17th April

Senior Football

The Senior and Reseerve footballers travelled to Claudy on Sunday past to contest their second league game of the season. from the throw in the game was played at an electric pace with both teams exchanging scores within the first two minutes. The bridge then bagged a further two points from a Peter McGrogan free then another from play before Danny Mulholland charged through the Claudy defence and hit the top corner from 25 yards. A further two scores from Peter saw the bridge take a reasonable lead. However claudy took advantage of some good attacking play and brought the score back to 1-6 to 0-7 at the half.

The bridge started the second half well with three unanswered scores. however a Claudy penalty brought the game right back into the melting pot. The final 15 minutes can only be described as hectic as both teams went score for score with Claudy taking advantage of their free kicks. The final score came in the third minute of injury time from Kevin Sweeney to draw the game with a final score of Newbridge 1-16 : 1-16 Claudy.

Reserve Football

The reserves had a more enjoyable afternoon fielding another strong side which included former Derry Minors Gerard Burke and Stephen Bateson as well as vocational college all star Carlito Diamondo which ran out eventual winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-12. The finishing prowess of Patrick McGuigan was pivotal as he and his big brother David linked up well throughout the game, however again the introduction of Damian Martin proved a masterstroke from the management as he again saw the bridge over the line with a majestically taken point to secure the win.
